It was still full price to buy that 1 DLC (like 20 euro or something), it was actually cheaper for me to buy Skyrim Special Edition on PC during a steam sale than it was to buy the 1 missing DLC for 360. On PC I buy all my games digitally, but for console I find that you actually get the cheapest deals if you buy physically (usually) especially if you're willing to buy used.įor whatever reason console just doesn't like sales, I remember owning Skyrim on 360 and I had all but 1 DLC (Dragonborn DLC). Yeah I meant console (PS4 to be specific). though it is nice for us to not have to deal with discs at all.) it's cheaper for them and they get to kill the used game market. (Though the discs are going away with consoles too.

And you get the worst of both worlds, as you still need the disc to play the base game, you can't chuck it like you would with a PC. I probably incorrectly assumed PC when you meant console? If so, yeah, consoles are headed down this path too and many do stuff like this already - the main game is on the disc, but the DLC is a key that can only be used once.

That said, this has been the case for years, so of course you'd already know this.

There is one plus side to this - you no longer need the physical media after using the key. ("Or worse" means that not just the DLC is locked away behind the key, but the base game is too.) (The exceptions are a very few indie games that give you a DRM free version and a Steam/whatever key in the box.) The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games Listĩ9+% of games that use Steam/Origin/uPlay//etc are like this (or worse) - they may or may not include a disc (that includes either the installer only or some of the game) but to get it to actually work you have to use the key to add the game to your account.
